5 Ways to Rock Your Next Job Interview

Interviewing for a new job is probably one of the most nerve racking things that most of us will ever do. Mastering these five tips will ensure that you shine like the rock-star that you were born to be!

Body Language
If you are an overly expressive talker such as myself and love hand gestures like I do, make a conscious effort to tone it down during the interview. It can be very distracting to the interviewer. On that same note be aware of your body language. Smile and sit up straight!

Ask good questions.
At the end of the interview you will almost always be asked, “Do you have any questions?” Always, always, always have at least two well thought out questions prepared... Did I say Always? Like seriously girls, this is not optional! Good questions show genuine interest in the position you’re interviewing for.

Master the “about myself” statement
This is where so many people go wrong. Have a great professional about me statement prepared. A good statement will give a brief summary of your resume and accomplishments. It’s not a dating profile, avoid any personal statements that can open you up for possible discrimination.

Know your audience.
For goodness sake girls take a few minutes to do your homework. Know about the company and what it is that they do.

Dress for the job that you want.
This is a job interview, not a date. Keep it classy, keep it professional and keep it neat! Unless you are applying to work at a super trendy tech start up company with a casual environment I always advise to dress up. Its better to be over dressed than under dressed where an interview is concerned.

  5. I always struggle with choosing questions to ask in response! I'll think of a few, but then answer them myself in my research pre-interview. I don't want to ask a question that's not genuine... -Kayla

    1. Kayla, a great question is "what are the challenges a new person will face in this role" or "whats a typical day look like"these are great questions that generally arent available unless your taking with someone who is in the role, but will give you great insight to the expectations. Hope this was helpful! Thanks for visiting.
